First Look at Keyword Forecast in Google Insights for Search

Google’s keyword forecast is a new tool for SEO experts that analyzes past trends to predict future search trends for keywords. While this is primarily a marketing pull technique, it can also be used by entrepreneurs to have an alternative opinion about the growth potential of their targeted market.

On the other hand, it can be used as a competition benchmarking tool. Words showing upward trends might mean that there is competition aggressively pushing for those keywords.

Sometimes, this tool can be used to predict the competition’s demise. For instance, searching for the keyword ‘microsoft’ shows the following graph:

I guess based on this chart, Google has nothing to fear from its main competitor.
